Bears
Nordic Way Tube Flies

Bears are a natural part of Alaska's ecosystem, unfortunately some think of them as a vicious preditor and to be eliminated. These three two year olds were photographed by a good friend of mine in August 2005 on the Russian River. Their mother was killed by some unthinking fisherman who also wounded one of the cubs. It now appears that all three are doing well and expected to survive. The fisherman has been charged with a crime for this act

This was the cub wounded in the left front leg, notice how thin he is compared to the other cubs which probably was caused by its inability to succesfully catch fish.
