The Russian Village of Ninilchik, Alaska
The Kenai Peninsula in Alaska was inhabitated by Russian fur trappers before Russia sold Alaska to the United States.
Russia gave the settlers a choice of staying in Alaska or returning back Russia and facing taxes and military conscription,
needless to say not much of a choice. Ninilchik is one of the more famous Russian settlements with the same family names still
present from that period.
